Wee Wally Whisky - Hero Image

Wee Wally Whisky is a conceptual Scottish whisky brand which aims to improve drinking culture and promote healthier living habits concerning alcohol within the UK. The release of the limited-edition bottle is accompanied with a charity campaign, that not only invites consumers across Scotland to interact with the brand and materials on social media (@weewallywhisky), but encourages them to drink responsibly.

Ideation stage

Firstly, I wanted to settle on a brand message and ethos before coming up with any of the visual elements. I landed on an interactive awareness campaign targeted towards the heavy drinkers of Scotland. I’m talking from black out drunk to ‘hangxiety’.

Now that was settled, I needed something to grab their attention - or should I say someone. My ideation stage created a domino effect. Once Wally was established, I gained a name, tone and purpose of the brand and campaign.

THE PRODUCT

The packaging developed from the heavily Scottish theme that was created. I wanted to showcase a unique, limited-edition bottle with strong ties to Scottish/Celtic heritage. The branding was pulled together with inspiration from celtic ruins, the scots language and Scottish whisky craftmanship.

To bring the whisky brand to life, I needed more than just a logo - I needed an identity that would make an impact and hopefully be irresistibly charming. Through many different iterations along came Wally – the playful character to mascot Scottish drinkers. His purpose is to depict the stages of drunkenness and through advertisement engage viewers to interact with the brand socials.

DON’T BE A WALLY

The ideology is simply, “Don’t Be A Wally” when you’re drinking. The advertisement raises a mirror to those who drink irresponsibly and gets the public to engage with the socials that then provides them with info about overconsumption of alcohol. Wally appears around major cities in Scotland, with a diverse spread of taglines and links to the socials.
